Interview with Blogosphere editor Albertine Brandon

What is your current role and how did you get into it?

I’m currently the Commissioning Editor at Blogosphere. I actually started working for the magazine two and a half years ago as Editorial Assistant (it was my first job after completing my Journalism Diploma) and I’ve learnt a lot during my time here. I actually first applied for the Editorial Assistant job after seeing it advertised on Twitter, and my experience of writing a blog and organising events helped me to get the job.

What’s the most challenging thing about working in the beauty industry?

I find it really hard to keep up to date with everything! There are new launches daily, so trying to share that on my blog can be really tricky. Therefore, I try to make sure my content is a combination of new product reviews and more evergreen advice and tips.

Who is your beauty icon?

Ooh, that’s a tough one, but I think I would have to say, Audrey Hepburn. I like to keep my makeup fairly simple, enhancing my natural features, and I feel that was always her approach. She was also the queen of the strong brow, which is something I admire!

What is something you wish you knew 5 years ago?

I wish I had known that less is more. When I was a teenager I was obsessed with complicated eyeshadow looks, contouring, bold lips and it was just all too much. Now I have a far simple makeup routine and I think as a result I look much better, and far more natural.

What is your biggest skincare secret?

Keep it simple! All you really need is a good cleanser and moisturiser – that’s it! My favourite combination is Liz Earle’s Cleanse and Polish and Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base.

One thing you would tell your younger self (beauty-wise)

Embrace a stronger brow, and don’t over-pluck them. I was so self-conscious about my brows, I wish I had stuck to getting them threaded by a professional, instead of trying to pluck them myself.

How does Skin, Hair & Nails fit into your daily routine?

They’re really easy to take in the morning, so I like to have mine with breakfast.

Travel is a huge part of your life – How do you keep up with your skincare routine?

As I mentioned above, I think having a simple routine means it’s easy to take with you. I only need two products and I’m good to go!
