Shrove Tuesday is upon us. If you are looking to enjoy a few pancakes but would like to keep your toppings healthy, this post is for you. We are passionate about healthy skin, and these toppings are full of nutrients to help keep your skin glowing from the inside out.
Banana and nut butter
Almond butter is amazing for your skin as it contains high levels of vitamin E. Vitamin E can help keep skin hydrated and reduce any signs of ageing. Look for a quality nut butter that provides 100% nuts as these contain no added oils or sugar. Bananas are also full of nutrients and are great energy boosting foods. This combo is the perfect way to start your Shrove Tuesday.
Blueberries and Greek Yogurt
Blueberries are high in antioxidants. Antioxidants help your skin by reducing dark spots and minimising any early signs of ageing. Use Greek yoghurt instead of ice cream or whipped cream, as it is a low refined sugar option. Also, top your pancakes with chia seeds. These are rich in omega 3 and can help to repair damaged skin cells and hydrate skin.
Honey and lemon
Fresh lemon juice is a much better alternative to the bottled juice as it is lower in preservatives. Lemon juice is great for vitamin C which works to boost our immune system and fight against free radicals (it also helps to boost collagen). The honey also contains antioxidants, which can contribute to protecting against diseases and any cell damage. For best results, use manuka honey, as this has antibacterial properties also.
Smoked Salmon, Avocado and lime juice
Salmon is high in Omega 3 which helps keep our skin glowing and subtle. Combine this with the superfood Avocado which we know is great for the skin and high in good fats. This is a delicious option if you fancy a savoury pancake high in nutritional content.
